There’s something about Gympie

We are kind of haunted. Ever since Fraser told us to «avoid Gympie», we feel totally at a loss at this task. There must be something about Gympie. It keeps bringing itself back to our attention, even though we have never even passed through.

Like, we enjoy ourselves at the beach in Cape Bridgewater (some 2150 kilometers away from The Hole) and we meet some surfers from Queensland, so we couldnt help but to ask whether the place they live in (we didnt know the name of the town and we already have forgotten it again) was close to Gympie. They laughed, indeed they lived only one hours drive away. So we told them our funny story about Gympie only to learn that we should have checked whether that old Gympie lady had an operation scar on her neck, as all people from Gympie (also known as Hell town) have two heads and often have them surgically removed to better blend in in other places …

They then told us other funny stories about Gympie and it’s inhabitants (we can’t bring them up here as they were rather nasty) and we were having a laugh together about all that fun stuff about that place.

Curiosity was piqued, and I googled a bit about the famous place and found this. That made me wonder whether the funny birds we have seen at the beach were from Gympie after all (see this picture).

To keep things fair, there is also other information about this world renowned Town. Yet I can’t help but think that Aussies don’t really like the inhabitants, and not only for the fact they called the equivalent of our german Brennessel the Gympie Stinger …
